A sustainable meeting place; Mushroom Valley
3 weeks ago we published an article about the flowpacking of mushrooms and other developments regarding the packaging of mushrooms. As a follow-up, we visited Kevin van Berlo at this sustainable meetingplace; Mushroom Valley. At Omori Europe we have been in contact with Mushroom Valley for some time to keep each other informed about ‘the ins and outs’ within the industry. Kevin tells us very enthusiastically and enthusiastically about the latest state of affairs about the Dutch Mushroom Center, which is yet to be built.
Mushroom Center is an innovative meeting place
A wonderful meeting place in the epicenter of Dutch mushroom cultivation where everything related to mushroom gastronomy, education, research and promotion must come together. A place for national and international students, growers and producers to share and exchange knowledge. After all, the Netherlands is still an authority within the worldwide mushroom industry.
However, as a packaging expert, we believe that the packaging of mushrooms receives too little attention. While developments are well underway in this area as well. Packaging tax, plastic soup and circularity are important topics these days, which also apply to mushroom packaging.
Thinner is more durable
At Omori Europe we are currently at the forefront of these developments; thinner stretch films without PVC to be processed on the STN-8500 stretch wrapper and also entry of the aforementioned flowpack packaging. Leading here is the European Plastic Pact, which states that it wants to achieve a weight reduction of at least 20% on so-called “virgin” plastic products.
We have been supplying our machines to growers and producers for many years and in that capacity we know the market and products well. Together with the Dutch Mushroom Center, we are happy to highlight the packaging and mushroom packaging so that future visitors can be properly informed and educated about this aspect.
